Description
The AFT09 is one of the dedicated ATGM carriers in service with the PLAGF, alongside platforms equipped with HJ-10 ATGMs. Development of the HJ-9 began after Institute 203 anticipated that the combat capabilities of HJ-73 and earlier variants of the HJ-8 would prove insufficient against new MBTs. Following a directive for a new ATGM capable of countering potential enemy MBTs by the year 2000, an engineering team, building on the expertise gained during the development of the HJ-8, commenced work on the HJ-9 in 1988. The new missile abandoned wire guidance in favour of TV guidance, incorporated a tandem warhead to maximise effectiveness against armoured targets, and featured revised solid fuel rocket engines for increased speed.
Set consists of 15 fine metal 1:600th/3mm scale miniatures.
