Description
The Char D2 was a French medium tank developed by the Renault company during the interwar period. It was designed as an improved and more heavily armored version of the earlier Char D1, with its development beginning as early as 1930. The D2 was intended to be a more affordable and lighter alternative to the powerful but expensive Char B1, and it was also considered a potential replacement if arms limitation treaties had been enacted.
Around 100 Char D2 tanks were built in two batches between 1936 and 1940. While it was considered a good tank for its time, it suffered from mechanical unreliability and a low top speed of only 23 km/h (14 mph). Despite this, it gained some fame during the Battle of France in 1940, as it was the tank used by the 4th Armored Division, which was commanded by then-Colonel Charles de Gaulle.
Set consists of 15 fine metal 1:600th/3mm scale miniatures.
