Description

The Hawker Hurricane was a British single-seat fighter aircraft known for its crucial role in the Battle of Britain. Though often overshadowed by the more famous Supermarine Spitfire, the Hurricane was the backbone of the RAF’s Fighter Command during the battle, accounting for the majority of enemy aircraft destroyed.

The Hurricane saw service in all major theaters of World War II. While its fame comes from its success as a fighter and bomber interceptor during the Battle of Britain, its ruggedness and adaptability led to its use in a variety of roles. It was modified into night fighters, fighter-bombers capable of ground attacks, and even Sea Hurricanes equipped with arrestor hooks for use on aircraft carriers and catapults on merchant ships. Over 14,000 Hurricanes were built in Britain and Canada, a testament to its importance and versatility throughout the war.
