Description
The Landing Craft, Mechanized LCM(3), was a critical U.S. landing craft used extensively during World War II, most notably in the D-Day landings. Designed by Andrew Higgins, it was a larger and more robust craft than the more famous Higgins boat (LCVP).
Its primary purpose was to transport heavy equipment and vehicles from troop transports to the shore, as it could carry one M4 Sherman tank, a bulldozer, or a truck. In place of a vehicle, it could transport up to 60 equipped soldiers or 60,000 pounds of cargo. The LCM(3) had a bow ramp that could be lowered directly onto the beach, allowing for the rapid deployment of its contents. This capability made it a vital component in amphibious assaults, as it provided ground forces with the firepower and logistical support they needed to push inland.
Set consists of 8 fine metal 1:600th/3mm scale miniatures.
