Description
The M4 Sherman was the most widely used medium tank by the United States and Western Allies in World War II. The M4 Sherman proved to be reliable, relatively cheap to produce, and available in great numbers.
The M4A3 was a variant of the M4 Sherman medium tank, preferred by the U.S. Army during World War II. It was distinguished from other Sherman models by its welded hull and a powerful Ford GAA V8 gasoline engine.
Key features and variations of the M4A3 included:
Engine: The M4A3 was powered by the Ford GAA V8 engine, which was found to be superior to other available medium tank engines at the time.
Hull: It featured a welded hull and, in later production models, a 47-degree sloped glacis plate with “wet” ammunition storage to reduce the risk of fire.
Armament: The M4A3 was produced with a variety of main guns, including the 75mm M3 gun for infantry support and the higher-velocity 76mm M1 gun for anti-armor capability. Some variants were also fitted with a 105mm howitzer for indirect fire.
Suspension: Early models used the Vertical Volute Spring Suspension (VVSS), while later versions, often referred to as the “Easy Eight” or M4A3E8, were upgraded with the Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension (HVSS) for better mobility.
Set consists of 15 fine metal 1:600th/3mm scale miniatures.
