Description
The Renault R40 was a French light infantry tank developed as an improved version of the Renault R35, one of the most numerous French tanks in the early stages of World War II. The R40 was a direct attempt to fix the major shortcomings of its predecessor, particularly its poor suspension and weak armament.
The most significant change for the R40 was its new suspension system. The original R35’s suspension, with its horizontal rubber springs, was unreliable and gave the tank a rough ride, causing it to perform poorly over soft ground. The R40 adopted a more advanced design with twelve small road wheels per side and six vertical coil springs covered by an armored skirt. This new system, developed by the AMX factory (a state-run part of the nationalized Renault company), significantly improved the tank’s off-road performance and speed.
Set consists of 15 fine metal 1:600th/3mm scale miniatures.
