Description
The Staghound Mk.I was an American-designed armored car, officially designated the T17E1, but it was primarily used by British and Commonwealth forces during and after World War II. Its development began in 1941, and it was a four-wheeled vehicle produced by Chevrolet.
Although it was initially intended for use by the U.S. Army, they ultimately chose a lighter vehicle, leading to the Staghound being supplied to the Allies under the Lend-Lease program. It was a large and heavy armored car, with a maximum speed of 55 mph (89 km/h) on roads. The design was innovative, featuring two rear-facing GMC engines and automatic transmissions, allowing for either two- or four-wheel drive.
The Staghound Mk.I was armed with a 37 mm M6 gun and multiple .30 cal Browning machine guns – one coaxial to the main gun, one in the hull, and an optional anti-aircraft mount on the turret roof. It also carried a 2-inch smoke mortar. Its armor was relatively thick for an armored car, with a maximum thickness of 45 mm on the turret front. It had a crew of five.
Set consists of 15 fine metal 1:600th/3mm scale miniatures.
